Workshops for policy analysis, judicial and administrative Jaguar Natural Monument were
successfully developed

March 15-16, 2010.

Organized by the National Parks Administration, the Fiscal Research Unit in Environmental Matters (UFIMA) and the National Wild Fauna Direction, took place at Puerto Iguazú City, in misiones province.

The meeting was attended by judicial authorities (national and provincial) from different jurisdictions, responsible for national and provincial protected areas, national guard, representatives of various police departments, National Gendarmerie, airport police, legal advisers of the various environment provincial agencies, etc. Two NGOs were present: Red Yaguareté and FARN.

After several exhibitions (see below schedule of activities) begin the work in interdisciplinary groups to discuss and search for solutions on practical cases involving direct hunting and trade in products of the species, with rich exchanges and specialists recomendations that clarified complex issues.

Finally, it was discussed in plenary on actions and commitments to follow the participants and agencies involved, pointing out concrete actions to develop from here on, among which was decided to raise the results to the COFEMA, improve communication between the various jurisdictions to enhance efforts and maximize results and formed a working group to develop a protocol that clarifies the steps in each jurisdiction to cases.

- Development of line actions.

- End.

Formosa province was the largest number and diversity of representatives provided (Secretary of Environment, Supervision and control, environmental police, attorneys).

Unfortunately, there were no judges present, despite having been especially invited, looks to improve and shows while we must continue working to increase engagement in this part of the process, which is exactly the one that is failing.

A very good initiative which we hope will definitely guide the procedures and actions to end this threat to the jaguar in Argentina.
